About Hotels Docklands

Hotels Docklands is an independent review and comparison site covering every major hotel in Melbourne's Docklands precinct. We aggregate publicly available guest-review data to help travellers make informed booking decisions. We are not affiliated with any hotel, booking platform, or hotel group.

Who We Are

Hotels Docklands is maintained by the HD Editorial Team — an independent editorial group focused on data-driven hospitality analysis for Melbourne's Docklands precinct. Reviews and trend analysis are written and edited by Tom Burns, the site's hospitality data editor, who compiles the public guest-review datasets the site is built on. We do not accept payment for placement, ranking, or review outcomes. There are no affiliate links on this site.

Data Sources

All review data referenced on this site is sourced from publicly accessible guest-review platforms:

All data is collected manually from public-facing hotel listing pages. We do not use scraping tools that violate platform terms of service. Review counts and aggregate scores are snapshot values captured at a specific point in time and noted in each page's disclaimer.

Methodology

Aggregate Scores

When we reference a hotel's Google or Booking.com rating, we cite the aggregate score displayed on the platform at collection time, along with the review count. These are not computed or weighted by us — they are the platform's own published aggregates.

The 480-Review Peppers Dataset

For Peppers Southern Cross Melbourne (formerly Peppers Docklands), we maintain a dedicated dataset of 480 individual guest reviews spanning April 2020 to April 2026, sourced from Google (440 reviews), Trip.com (24), TripAdvisor (12), and TrustYou (4). Each review is individually dated and rated. This dataset powers our time-series trend analysis, sub-score breakdowns, and sentiment composition metrics.

Rankings

Hotel rankings on this site use four equally weighted criteria: Google review rating, Google review sample size, onsite amenity availability, and review sentiment patterns. The methodology is disclosed on each ranking page.

Walking Distances

All walking distances and times are measured using Google Maps walking directions from each hotel's main entrance to the relevant landmark (Marvel Stadium Gate 3, Southern Cross Station Spencer Street entrance, MCEC main entrance). Distances are approximate and may vary by route.

Pricing

Nightly rates shown are the lowest listed rate on Booking.com at the time of data collection. Actual rates vary by date, availability, and booking channel. Event-night rates are typically significantly higher than base rates.
